Psychoanalytic Fellowship

Become a fellow

The Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research awards a one-year fellowship to a small number of highly qualified applicants each year.

To successfully complete the fellowship, all Columbia Psychoanalytic Fellows:
• Attend “Great Ideas in Psychoanalysis,” a monthly seminar exclusively for the fellows featuring discussions with the most senior members of our faculty each discussing what they consider one outstanding idea or paper in psychoanalysis in an informal setting
• Attend our “Why Psychoanalysis?” monthly case presentation
• Meet over the course of the year with a mentor from our faculty
• Gain free admittance to the winter conference of the American Psychoanalytic Association in New York
• Work together on a written project to be published in the bulletin of Columbia’s Association for Psychoanalytic Medicine
• Have the opportunity to become part of the Center’s research group

Who can Apply

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a residency training program, psychology Ph.D., or Psy.D. program or psychology internship, or have completed their training within the past five years. Applicants should demonstrate particular interest and ability in psychodynamic psychotherapy.

How to Apply

To apply to be a Columbia fellow, you must submit a letter of recommendation from the director of your training program, a letter of recommendation from a psychotherapy supervisor, a current curriculum vitae, and an essay of up to 1,000 words on a meaningful moment in a psychotherapy you have conducted. Please submit your application materials via email to Jane Rosenthal, MD jlr10@columbia.edu
