Why Columbia?
Find out what Columbia trainees and faculty think most distinguishes the Center as a place to learn, teach, and grow.
Through the Affiliate Scholars Program, scholars from a variety of fields have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of psychoanalytic theory by taking classes in the Adult and Child Psychoanalytic curricula.
Affiliate Scholars take two classes for one academic year, though some have extended it for a second year. The choice of classes is tailored to the particular research interests of the individual. In consultation with a faculty advisor, Affiliate Scholars select, from our regular curriculum and from electives that vary from year to year, those courses in psychoanalytic theory that will most enrich their own scholarly projects.
The interdisciplinary composition of the classes is intellectually enlivening for all, and we welcome applications from writers and scholars in the arts and sciences, humanities, and social sciences. Affiliate Scholars have been professors, research scientists, independent scholars, and advanced graduate students.
Clinicians who wish to improve their understanding and skills in working with patients should, instead, consider our clinical training programs in psychotherapy or psychoanalysis.
