Psychoanalytic Fellowship

Become a fellow

The Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research awards a one-year fellowship to a small number of highly qualified applicants each year. The fellowship provides senior trainees and early career psychiatrists and psychologists with an opportunity to engage with psychoanalytic ideas in a variety of settings. These include monthly seminars designed specifically for the fellows, regular mentorship meetings, and participation in selected center-wide academic activities.

To successfully complete the fellowship, all Columbia Psychoanalytic Fellows participate in:

  • “Great Ideas in Psychoanalysis,” a monthly seminar in which a member of our psychoanalytic faculty discusses a paper of their choosing with the fellows.
  • “Why Psychoanalysis?,” a monthly case presentation and discussion.
  • Periodic mentorship meetings with Center faculty.
  • The winter conference of the American Psychoanalytic Association in New York (with fees paid by Columbia's Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research).

Who can Apply

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a psychiatry residency training program, a psychology Ph.D. or Psy.D. program, or a psychology internship, or have completed their training in psychiatry or clinical psychology within the past five years. Applicants should demonstrate particular interest and ability in psychodynamic psychotherapy.
