Psychoanalytic treatment at the Center is an opportunity for many patients to obtain psychoanalysis from highly regarded licenses psychologists and psychiatrists supervised by outstanding experienced psychoanalysts at a small fraction of the cost of private treatment.
If you feel your patient might benefit from a long-term therapy, but he or she cannot afford to pay the private fees usually charged, psychoanalysis at the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center may be the optimal treatment. At Columbia, psychoanalysis consists of three to four sessions per week, generally ongoing over at least two years, though some treatments, especially for young adults, teens, or children may be of shorter duration.
To refer a patient, please contact Anand Desai, M.D. at (646) 774-8625. If Dr. Desai agrees that psychoanalysis may be the treatment of choice for your patient, the patient will be asked to fill out an application. The process is streamlined, straightforward, and easy for the patient.
As long as the patient agrees, our evaluating analyst will be in touch with you as part of the evaluation process and will be interested in hearing any thoughts you may have about the patient’s history as well as ideas regarding therapist match.
We routinely work with patients on medication and are comfortable recommending and prescribing medication as a part of treatment when indicated If we determine that analysis is not the best form of treatment for your patient, we will provide a new referral in consultation with you.
