Lectures and Symposia

Keep Learning With Us

For graduate analysts, the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center and its graduate society, the Association for Psychoanalytic Medicine (APM), offer numerous resources for continued professional growth. These include:

  • Monthly scientific programs
  • Ongoing and time-limited seminars
  • Yearly special symposia

We invite the broader psychoanalytic community to join us in these ongoing opportunities to learn and develop as clinicians and scholars.

Association for Psychoanalytic Medicine

The Association for Psychoanalytic Medicine (APM) is the graduate society of the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Research and Training. As such, the APM initiates, organizes, and produces much of the continuing education created for Columbia’s analytic graduates and faculty.

The APM is solely or jointly (in collaboration with the Center) responsible for the monthly Tuesday evening lectures at the New York Academy of Medicine as well as the Rado Seminars and its annual weekend symposia.

For a complete description of the APM and links to the many educational resources it offers, please visit the association’s website.

Evening Lectures

On the first Tuesday evening of each month of the academic year, the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center and its graduate society (the APM) host a scientific program of interest to the psychoanalytic community. These programs are free of charge and open to the public.

They are held at 8 PM at:

The New York Academy of Medicine
1216 Fifth Avenue (at 103rd Street)

Among the yearly lectures are several special lectures, including:

The International Psychoanalytic Scholar Invitational Lectureship

Seminars

The Sandor Rado Advanced Psychoanalytic Seminars

The Rado Seminars (RAPS Groups) are a program of postgraduate education for graduated psychoanalysts and approved advanced candidates of the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center. Graduates of other institutes and disciplines have participated in the past and may apply to join.

Seminar groups are organized by theoretical and clinical subjects, and new seminars are formed whenever there is an indication of interest in a topic. Among the many groups currently meeting are Female Sexuality (Vivian Pender, M.D., Chair), Fundamentals of Psychoanalysis (Robert Glick, M.D., Chair), and Psychoanalytic Perspectives on the Bible (Samuel Pauker, M.D., Chair). A complete list of RAPS groups is available on the website of the Association for Psychoanalytic Medicine.

The Psychoanalytic Center considers participation in these study groups to be an important contribution to the work of the Center, and participation partially fulfills the requirements for appointment as a collaborating psychoanalyst at the Center.
