Psychology Externship

The Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research offers a year-long program in the theory and technique of psychodynamic psychotherapy.

The program integrates coursework in psychoanalytic core concepts, theory, development, and clinical technique, with intensive psychodynamic psychotherapy training at an adult outpatient clinic of the New York State Psychiatric Institute.

Classes take place on Mondays (11am-12:45pm, 1:30-3:00pm) and on Thursdays (12:30-3pm). There is also an option to take classes on Mondays 8-9:30pm.

We prefer externs to see their patients on Mondays and Thursdays, although there is some flexibility in scheduling clinical hours.

Meetings with supervisors are scheduled at mutually convenient times throughout the week.

To find out more about our program or to apply, please visit our page on the APA Practicum List

We comply with the PSYDNYS-NYNJDOT Externship Guidelines.
